I worked on this project as a school assignment which partnered a group of students with the Presentation House Theatre. The challenge was to fix the PHT branding. The site required some strong branding concepts which were a struggle to establish. We needed to find a distinction between the branding strategy for the Presentation House Theatre as a building and Thirdstreet Theatre Production company which runs the theatre.
The solution was to create a site that branded both aspects of the organization by highlighting the Thirdstreet Theatre company and keeping the branding for the Presentation House Theatre (building) in a less terminal visual area of the site (PHT logo in the top right corner, rather than the top left corner where the Thirdstreet logo is).
As part of our course work on SEO at Capilano University we were given a domain name and some hosting space and asked to direct as much traffic to the Capilano Interactive Design Project website. My group built Robot Salmon.
Our group decided to build a Wordpress site because it is easy to keep updated and to plug into social media. I worked with Kyle Brownlow to develop the Infromation Architecture behind the site. Max Stockholder and Laura Mason designed the site and I developed it. Nicole Farley made sure we all stayed sane. As a result we have had 1496 visitors to our site in the last From mid January to March 1st, with over 600 unique visits and dozens of comments.
Gold Team Management is a property management company located in Richmond. They needed a new website and branding. They approached me to take on the job. The challenge was to present a professional look and feel and meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders.
I began the project by gathering information about the Gold Team while collecting data with Google Analytics about their current users. From there I built Information Architecture. Laura Mason worked with me to create the design, and I coded the site.
Dee Daniels was looking for someone to help her learn how to use YouTube and make videos to upload. I met with her and realized that she also need some help consolidating her web presence. She had 4 web publishing outlets: Myspace, YouTube, deedaniels.com and Facebook. But they were exclusive from each other
Working with her, I branded her YouTube, and Myspace pages linking both of them to each other and to her website. I then showed her how to share these sites on her Facebook. This project was about creating a social media web strategy and helping someone to understand what this kind of strategy could do for them.
Information Architecture is the mortar of user centered design. I was lucky enough to learn from the great Karyn Zuidinga. She drilled into me the principles of Information Architecture that have allowed me to create so many wonderful user experiences.
Here are some examples of IA I have done in school: Personas, Site Maps and Wireframes.
Capilano University's Interactive Design programs features a large amount of comprehensive visual design instruction and I was able to learn from the epic Jackie Ritchie an awesome designer in Vancouver a member of the INTE faculty.
Here are some examples of work I generated. I have included an image of a vehicle branding project, a vector illustration of my portrait and the design for my business cards.
I was able to learn a lot of development skills. I learned AS3, Ruby on Rails, PHP, CSS, HTML and even a little bit of iPhone development with NimbleKit. I'm comfortable working in all of these areas.
Here are screenshots of my PHP, CSS, HTML skills, a Ruby on Rails project, and an AS3 project.
Well... I like to build web sites. I use the analytical training and critical thinking I learned studying Internation Political Economics at the University of Alberta, with the skills in Interaction Design that I learned at Capilano University, to make kick ass web stuff. I am currently working at DES Games in Gastown as a Data Analyst. We make games for the Facebook Platform.
